MacUpdate Review of Media Pro 1.5.0.114

As a user going back to iView Media days, I really, really would like to be able to recommend this due to its many unique features, but that's no longer possible due to its numerous stability and reliability issues. It has more bugs than 'The Mummy'. In the most recent fiasco, after an 'Update Folder' operation, the app randomly renamed about 400 files from a ~4000-item catalog, adding them as new files/duplicates alongside the original files in thumbnail view, and then deleted the original files when the 'duplicates' were deleted. This is bizarre and unacceptable. There are other bugs and feature deficits that have persisted since iView days. There is no 'Undo' capability for anything. Change your mind about an image you trashed? Manually put it back from the Finder, update the folder (hoping it doesn't get corrupted in the process) and way you go... at last. Accidentally drag one subfolder onto another? Same deal. Similarly, there is no QuickLook support whatsoever, and no multitouch support other than basic scrolling (no rotate, zoom etc). Since these are features that have been 'baked into' the OS for around six years, this is especially hard to understand. Other feature set improvements have been very few over that time too. I would have given higher ratings for Features and Ease Of Use if I didn't have to spend so much time dealing with catalog corruption, file duplication, phantom files and the like. This app could still be a contender if it received a serious development effort. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be getting one, perhaps 'maintenance' only. But it is worth nowhere near the $200 listed here (I got update pricing from the MS version when it broke under ML.) I regret having to recommend avoiding it.
